Great For
  • This application can be used with pre-school students through to high school students.
  • It would be a great resource for teachers to use in the classroom and also for parents to practice skills at home.
  • It is great for students who need to improve their writing skills, however, it provides access to a range of other curriculum areas, such as following directions and mathematics problems.
  • It provides students with an initial demonstration and the option for verbal cues.
  • The application is highly customisable and new, individualised lessons can be created.
  • The application provides 3 different tracing options, guideline options such as directional arrows and paper options, such as dotted thirds. It also has different pencil thicknesses.
Please Consider
  • The application doesn’t have automatic recognition of drawn shapes therefore the student may require supervision to ensure the tasks are completed correctly.
  • The application provides a clean layout with minimal distractions, however, all tasks are completed in a ‘pen and paper’ style and therefore the level of motivation may be a limiting factor for student participation.
  • It is important to consider the student’s posture when completing writing tasks. As the iPad is transportable, it may not be used with appropriate handwriting posture. It is important to encourage a supported, upright posture during
Generalise Skills and Knowledge
  • It is important to generalise letter formations using not only the student’s finger but also a Stylus. It is recommended to choose an appropriate Stylus depending on the child’s age and fine motor skills, for example, with a non-slip rubber exterior or pencil grip.
  • Practicing with a Stylus will help to develop an effective pencil grasp.
  • Letter formations can also be practiced in a range of multi-sensory activities, for example, in sand or shaving foam.
